FRIDAY FEATURE: Healthy Mama of the Month

Welcome to our FRIDAY FEATURE, where we feature one of our members or instructors each Friday.

Meet Miranda, Stroller Strides & FIT4Baby Member since January 2017.

Who are you a mom to?

Mom to Fox, who will be 7 months old July 11th.

When and why did you get involved with Fit4Mom? How did you hear about it?

I started in Fit4Mom when I was in my third trimester, after seeing an ad pop up on my Facebook feed. The amazing Jessica Ripple was my instructor, and Rachel Goochey [an instructor] was another pregnant mom in my class. Everything about the class made me so happy - it was hard and a real workout, but everyone was very kind and welcoming. Jessica and Rachel felt like friends after one class, and I looked forward to it every week. I read about Stroller Strides, and had a girlfriend who had participated a few years ago and loved it, and knew I wanted in. Especially after seeing classes were in the park in the warm season. Jessica came and visited me after Fox was born, and I thought it was the sweetest gesture. Even though I grew up here and have a lot of friends who are moms, I still appreciated it so much! You can never have too much support. Knowing Jessica and Rachel made it less "scary" to join Stroller Strides, and I went as often as I could!

What Fit4Mom programs have you participated in (or are planning to!) and what were your favorite parts of them?

So far I have only done Stroller Strides and Barre, and one session of Fit4baby, but I'm doing the mini Body Back session in July, and I can’t wait!

What's your favorite Fit4Mom moment/memory/experience?

There have been some tough parts of motherhood so far, and exercise has always been my outlet and my "me time". I love that I can work and sweat, with my baby, and be surrounded by other amazing mamas doing the same. Some days, just laughing with the other moms helps to reset me after a rough night. It’s always nice to be reminded you aren't alone and that so many women have gone through what you are going through.

What future fitness goals do you have for yourself?

I'm looking forward to gaining back some actual real core muscles, and feeling as strong as I did before pregnancy. I signed up for a race in September, and am hopeful to join the Run Club and learn how to run effectively with a stroller from Joslyn Robinson Bernhardt and Hayley Anderson! Seeing all the instructors (and mamas!) managing multiple kids, fitness and instructing is so inspiring.

What keeps you busy when you're not being "mom"?

I am currently a Special Education teacher and behavior therapist for the Meridian School district, and will hopefully be taking a little time off to spend with Fox before returning to teaching. When I'm not busy with that I love doing anything outdoors! Hiking, biking, camping and gardening are my favorites, but I am always up for an adventure of any kind. I have been working hard to make Fox love the outdoors as much as I do, and he is my little adventure buddy!

What's something interesting that people may not know about you?

I also enjoy traveling, cooking (and eating) and trying new things. I did a study abroad program in college called Semester at Sea, and visited 12 countries and sailed around the world on a cruise ship! I am always waiting and hoping for the next great journey, and Motherhood has definitely been that!
