Healthy Mama Highlight - Jennifer Yribar
Mamas - we love featuring you monthly because you inspire us! This month, we're highlighting Jennifer who joined us for Stroller Strides last May. We love having her! Get to know her here:
Who are you a mom to?
My daughter Ainoa (4) and my son Jon (turns 2 on Feb. 2)
When and why did you get involved with Fit4Mom? How did you hear about it?
I joined Fit4Mom in May 2017. I had heard about the group through Nicole McDermott. I used to take classes at the YMCA, but after my second child, I couldn’t afford the family membership and child watch. Between taking care of my two little ones, nursing/pumping for Jon, and working three days a week, I couldn’t seem to catch my breath or exercise for that matter. It took me more than a year to decide that I needed to do more than just walk. I attended the Mother’s Day Open House and signed up right there and then!
What Fit4Mom programs have you participated in (or are planning to!) and what were your favorite parts of them?
I participate twice a week (Mon/Fri) and typically attend Stroller Strides, but I used to attend Barre with Jessica Ripple and adored her class.
What's your favorite Fit4Mom moment/memory/experience?After Jon, I started having back pain. I knew it was because my core was so weak. After just a couple of weeks participating in Fit4Mom, my back started feeling better, stronger. I rarely have any pain anymore and I’m so thankful. I especially loved working out at Julia Davis Park this past summer. It was so fun to be working out in beautiful Boise and enjoy so many of Downtown’s amenities with my kids afterwards. In the end, what keeps me coming is that, rain or shine, this community of women shows up, in a big way.
What future fitness goals do you have for yourself?
I just want to keep a healthy-ish and active lifestyle, find balance and maintain a regular exercise routine. For me, that means two or three workouts a week, whether that is with Fit4Mom, a hike in the foothills, a few ski runs, or a quick at-home Pilates workout in my basement! One day, I’ll resume a more regular running schedule (I used to run 10k and half-marathons), but for right now, this is good enough. I know this is a special time in my life and I try to treasure every moment I get with my family and loved ones.
What keeps you busy when you're not being "mom"?
I work for the Boise City Dept. of Arts & History. I am responsible for outreach and education. I absolutely love my job and feel so fortunate to be able to serve my community, while contributing to making Boise “the most livable city in the country” for my kids and future generations.
What's something interesting that people may not know about you?
By now, everyone knows I was born and raised in a small ski resort in the French speaking part of Switzerland, but probably fewer people know that my mom was originally from Beaumont, Texas. I’m a dual citizen and am very proud to raise my children in both cultures and languages.
