Who are you Mom to?
I am mom to 6 year old Jacob
When and why did you get involved with Fit4Mom?
I was introduced to Fit4Mom by my dear friend, Jess Westhoff. My first class was on Spirit week in 2017 and Hayley Anderson led us in an awesome 80's themed work out. I was hooked and have been attending ever since.
What Fit4Mom programs have you participated in (or planning to) and what were your favorite parts of them?
I have done Stroller Strides, Stroller Barre, Boost classes, Mom's Night Out/In and all the virtual classes. I love the ability to connect with other moms and to work hard at keeping ourselves strong and healthy. We are a supportive community and it's great modeling for our kids to see us working as a team that's committed to good health.
What's your favorite Fit4Mom moment/memory/experience?
I have so many favorite Fit4Mom memories and know there will be many more to come. For my son, I have loved our play groups like Christmas in July or our kids fun runs. For myself, the Gratitude in Motherhood challenge this past November was life changing. Prioritizing my health allowed me to grow in ways I didn't even realize were possible.
What keeps you busy when you're not being "mom"?
When I am not being "mom," I work as an elementary school nurse at Morley Nelson. I love to run (I am hoping to run the Chicago marathon this year), cook, and read.
What's something interesting that people may not know about you?
People may not know that in addition to being a nurse, another passion of mine is Nutrition. I completed a Master's Certificate in Nutrition through the University of Washington in 2019.
What future fitness goals do you have for yourself?
My future fitness goals are to complete another marathon this year. It will be my 4th one and I hope to feel good running it and improve my finish time if possible.
What's your tip for surviving a pandemic as a mom?
My mom survival tips for the pandemic are to plan outdoor adventures as often as (safely!) possible. We have ventured to places we haven't been before as a family like Jump Creek and the Bruno Sand Dunes. We have tried cross country skiing and snow shoeing. It helps to look at this time as a chance to try new things as a family instead of feeling locked in. I have some great memories from the past year because we have had to think outside the box.
Anything else you want to add?
Fit4Mom came into my life when I was in desperate need of some kind, supportive friends. There is truly no other group of women like us around. I have made lifelong friendships and this community has been there for me through all kinds of highs and lows. I am forever grateful to be a part of this tribe!
